The word "strategy" is rooted in the military area. Just take a look at the following military organization: http://www.centcom.mil The United States Central Command (USCENTCOM) is a military organization that is:
- one of the five geographically defined unified commands within the Department of Defense. Today it is responsible for planning and conducting United States (U.S.) military activity in a region consisting of 27 countries in Northeast Africa, Southwest and Central Asia, and the island nation of the Seychelles.
It is therefore an operational organization in duty of the central US government and - as stated on the website - "providing both peacekeeping and offensive roles." The organization could be compared with a program management office responsible for the management of the resources over the various projects. The site provides insight in the various military operations you would not otherwise find in the world news. What I found especially interesting with the part of the site discussing the history of the organization;
Especially the fact that General John Paul Abizaid is the current Commanders in Chief (from July 7, 2003) After some googling around, I found out that the General is the grandson of a (Christian) Lebanese immigrant and speaks fluent Arabic. Strategy is about achieving a goal by using certain means. Strategy is also about being focused. Lebanon is inhibited by eighteen different religious groups. The main division however is between Muslims and Christians (source - wikipedia). The move to appoint a General of Lebanese origin could very well be seen as a strategic one; focused and prepared with the right cultural background to address the issues of tomorrow. © 2006 Hans Bool Hans Bool is the founder of Astor White a traditional management consulting company that offers online management advice.
