Life's Demons

Life's Demons

by Alisa Chagnon

It was so long ago, I can feel the slight remains...

Of what it was like to live in peace, so beautiful, no pain

Then came all the years and so many many tears

As if an army ran me down, those years buried me into the ground

I fought for quite a while, as I kept getting hit and God, it hurt

I'd stumble, fall to my knees, my face pushed into the dirt

Then the war seemed over, the warriors from Hell...

They beat me up and seemed happy that I fell

I got used to the dark, I got used to the cold

I thought I would forever be freezing and alone

And then YOU came, I do not know from where..

But you found me..you had found me hidden here

And for a brief moment of precious time...you did it! You brought me back to the sun..

Like I had so long ago, you made me feel the warmth again

You filled my heart with your sweet, sweet words, you took my hand & I felt safe

You pushed away all of life's demons, and I thought you changed my fate

My heart began to beat again, after I had thought it was black & dead

You put a smile on my face, and I soaked in all you said

I treasured every word you spoke to me, I savored every touch, every kiss

I'd spend my time dreaming of you.. and how you said I'd finally get my wish

And RIGHT as I finally let myself be free..when I finally let myself believe in you..

When the armies were just a past-forgotten dream, & the coldness went away too...

It was JUST then..as I reached out my hand to touch the sunlight..

And you saw the smile on my face.....

That you stopped...

And said it was not right

You said it was all wrong, it was all a big mistake, you were NOT really there to be my fate

You walked away & left me sitting all alone, the screams of the army, ready to push thru the gate

You had let me have that smile for that ONE moment, and then you took it all away

I felt love in my heart, but then you said it must stay grey

Why did you find me,, just to throw me back to my grave ?

When you told me that I had been saved?

You let me taste the freedom of the warm and comforting sun

Just for that moment, and then you said it must be done

Now the army is coming closer, it seems bigger then before

Their screams I hear in the distance, as I get ready for the war

You ripped my heart and left me to bleed, so they could find me even faster

And I know what they will do, but now it may not matter

For you already left me for dead...Your words ringing in my head...As my soul
is carried away... I will always remember the words I heard you say
